Anniversary Cake Decorating Ideas and Tips
It can sometimes be difficult to come up with creative and original anniversary cake decorating ideas. First, it’s usually a good idea to think about what kind of event and atmosphere the cake will represent. Fun? Formal? Sophisticated? Relaxed? Will children be present at the party? You want to make sure you cake doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb and will represent the couple and overall theme of the party.
As an example, will the cake be part of a formal party where guests are required to fit a specific dress code? If so, you’ll probably want to go with a tiered cake that represents a more formal look. A tiered cake is also a good idea if you’re expecting a large number of guests.
For smaller gatherings that are less formal, a single-layer cake is probably fine. You can dress the cake up slighlty by simply covering with a layer of fondant. For a simple decoration or embellishment you can pipe the number of years the couple has been married on the center of the cake.
If you’re not sure about what colors to use, apply the color theme of the couple’s wedding and original wedding cake. If can’t remember what they were, simply look back at a couple of old photographs! And for an endless supply of anniversary cake decorating ideas, simply look through some wedding cake decorating books!
To make the cake even more special, you can use the original cake topper or a flower arrangment similar to those used in their wedding. There are even ways to turn old photographs into cake decorations. You can take a photo from the wedding and have it transformed into an edible frosting photo! Normally this costs around $10 or so for each photograph.
A double-ring cake is also super easy to bake, assemble and decorate. You can use either two bundt cake pans which are already shaped like rings, or two 10 inch round double-layer cakes. Simply cut out a piece of one cake to fit into the second one, which creates a shape like two rings interlocked together.
If you use the round cake pans, you can simply pipe icing in the shape of rings on top of both cakes instead of cutting out the round holes, or use edible decorations in the shape of a circle.
Once the cakes are frosted, you can add dates, years, names or initials using different colors of cake decorating icing. Looking for more anniversary cake decorating tips and ideas? Try Wedding Cakes You Can Make
